Embarking on Your Fitness Journey: Why I'm Your Ideal Sherpa
Are you a parent with a demanding 9-5 job? Do you feel like finding time for fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an uphill battle? I've been there too, and I want to share my story and why I'm the perfect coach to guide you on your journey to better health.
From 270 lbs to 150 lbs: My Journey
Like many, I didn't realize I was overweight until one defining moment. It wasn't the frequent clothes shopping for larger sizes or the dine-outs that got me there. It was a simple incident in a classroom, where I lost my favorite pen, and it took an uncomfortable adjustment of my pants to find it - wedged between my rolls. That was my wake-up call.
I'm 5'8" and, at the time, weighed 270 lbs. It was a turning point. I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, experimenting with various diets and training programs. I tried it all, from carnivore to keto, and even the popular OMAD (One Meal a Day) diet. These diets can provide amazing short-term results, but the problem is sustainability. Once you feel you've "failed" the diet, you often revert to old habits. As Tony Robbins wisely said, "We are a reflection of our habits."
Navigating Challenges as a Parent and 9-5 Worker
As a parent with a 9-5 job, I understand the challenges you face. Saying "no" to family meals or dealing with puzzled looks from loved ones can be tough. But I've been there, and I've learned how to overcome these obstacles. The shift from "I can't have that" to "I don't want that" was a game-changer for me, and I can help you make the same shift.
Weightlifting and Running: A Dynamic Duo
Weightlifting became my companion on this journey. It wasn't just about shedding pounds; it was about building a stronger, healthier body. I delved into the world of biomechanics, realizing the significance of weightlifting in supporting my running journey. Squats and deadlifts not only made me stronger but also improved my running mechanics and reduced injuries.
Listening to Your Body
One key lesson I learned was to listen to my body. It's a slow process, and it's crucial to tune in to what your body is telling you. Biomarkers such as sleep quality, digestion, mood, and even how your clothes fit can be more telling than the number on the scale.
Coaching Approach
As your coach, I'm here to guide you, just like a Sherpa leading the way up Everest. We'll start by assessing your metabolism and determining your metabolic rate. We'll make protein a cornerstone of your diet, focusing on whole, animal sources. I'll help you set achievable goals and create personalized plans that fit your lifestyle, ensuring progress without overwhelming change.
Small, sustainable changes, rather than drastic shifts, will be our strategy. Non-negotiable daily habits will keep you on track, no matter how busy life gets.
Conclusion: Your Journey Begins Here
If you're a parent with a 9-5 job, know that I've been in your shoes. I've faced the same challenges and found the path to lasting change. Your fitness journey might be slow, but it's filled with permanent results. Think of me as your Sherpa on this ascent to your ideal weight, guiding you every step of the way.
